Torsdag och fredag tog vi oss långsamt tillbaka till Oxford där stortvätt och storstädning väntade innan nästa ägarepar tog över. Nu sittar vi på ett hotell i Colchester och längtar redan tilbaka till livet på Rivendell.

Tack till alla som har följd bloggen, vi kommer att lägga in fler bilder när vi kommer hem. Vi ses nästa sommar.

On Thursday and Friday we slowly cruised back to Oxford where it was time for some serious cleaning before the next shareowners took over. Now we sit at a hotel in Colchester and are already longing to be back on Rivendell.

Thanks to all of you who have followed the blog, we will add some more pictures when we are back home. See you next summer.

29/30-7-2008 Oxford --> Lower Heyford

Vi fick ett par dagar över, så vi beslutade oss för att gå en bit uppför South Oxford Kanalen. Det passade fint, då det är denna biten vi inte han med när vi senast var på South Oxford Kanalen och kom norifrån. Va skönt dett var att återse de små smala slussarna som är så mycket enklara att betjäna.

Den första dagen gick Sanne 10 km bredvid båten och letade upp 20 geocacher som var utlagda bredvid towpathen.

Sen hittade vi en mycket fin mooring vid Thrupp, där vi tillbringade natten innan vi åkte vidare mod Lower Heyford.

Vi stannade till på den fina gamla puben Rocks of Gibraltar där de höll på att planere kanalbåtsträff med anktävling.

Sen var det ju förstås inte alla slussar som var smala. Denne diamantformade sluss hittade vi vid indgången till floden Cherwell.

En stund senare blev dett hemlagad glass och andra förnödenheter indhandlade i en mycket speciel butik indredd i en narrowboat. (Jane's flytande gårdsbutik norr om Pidgeon Lock). Man förtöjer bredvid båten och går sen ner och hittar det man vill handla - och lägger betalningen i en låda ;-)

We have a few spare days before we shall leave the boat, so wedecide to go up the South Oxford Canal. Very suitable as it was this part of the canal that we didn't have time to go the last time we visited the South Oxford Canal (coming from the north). How nice it was to come back to the narrow locks again, they are so much easier to handle.

The first day Sanne walked 10 km beside the boat and found 20 geocaches that were hidden along the towpath.

After this we found a very nice mooring at Thrupp where we spend the night before we continued towards Lower Heyford.

We stopped for lunch at the beautiful old pub Rocks of Gibraltar where they were planning a boatfestival with a duck competition.

Well, it was not all the locks that were narrow. This diamondshaped lock we found at the entrance to river Cherwell.

A short while later we had homemade icecream and bought other necessities in a very special shop inside a narrowboat (Jane's floating farmshop just north of the Pidgeon Lock). You were supposed to moore up along the shop(boat), go down and find what you want to buy and leave your payment in a small box :-)

28-7-2008 Clifton Hampden --> Oxford

I Clifton Hampden fanns det en underbar liten affär ihop med det lokala posthuset där vi hittade nybakat bröd och varma croisanter till frukost i dag.

Sen blev det en lång och mycket het seglats till Oxford.

Vi hade planerad att gå upp via Dukes Cut, men då vi kom till vår sista sluss på Themsen rekommenderade slussvaktarna oss att ta oss bort från Themsen på grund av översvämningsvarningar som följd av kraftiga åskskurar. Så vi gick upp för Sheepwash Channel till Oxford kanalen vid Oxford centrum i stället och hittade en ledig tillägsplats alldelas i början.

På kvällen gick vi en cachingrunda i stan och njöt av folklivet i den varma kvällen. Sen började det åska och vi drog oss hem til båten - precis innan regnet började.

In Clifton Hampden there was a lovely little shop in the local postoffice where we bought freshbaked bread and warm croisants for breakfast today.

After this we had a long and very hot cruise to Oxford. We had planned to go up at Dukes Cut, but when we arrived at our last lock on the Thames, the lockkeeper adviced us to leave the Thames because he had got floodwarnings from Metoffice because of expected heavy thunderstorms. So instead we went up the Sheepwash Channel to the Oxford Canal at Oxford center and found a mooring right in the beginning of the canal.

In the evening we went for geocaching in Oxford and enjoyed the many people who were on the streats in the warm evening. Then the thunder and lightning started and we went home to the boat just before the rain started.

27-7-2008 Shillingford --> Clifton Hampden

En mycket social dag. Vid lunchtid fick vi besök av Louise och Jonathan som är nya delägare i båten.

Sen gick vi med våra nya Australensiska bekannta Rob och Tric hem till deras underbara hus i Shillingford, där vi åt Ploughman's lunch med mousserande vin och hade en trevlig pratstund. När vi gick hem till båten hade vi ett av Rob's hembakade bröd med oss, så det blev kvällsmat med "riktigt" bröd.

På eftermiddagen fortsatte vi vår resa uppför Themsen. Det är fortfarande svårt att hitta tillägsplatser, så vi fick en gäst som la till utanpå oss. Det var Ray and Lucille på Lucy Locket, så vi fick ännu en trevlig pratstund innan det var sängdags.

A very social day. At lunchtime the new shareholders Louise and Jonathan gave us a visit to have a look at the boat.

After this we walked home to our new Australian friends Rob and Tric who lives in a lovely house in Shillingford. We had a Ploughman's lunch with sparkling wine and a nice chat. When we went back to the boat we had one of Rob's homebaked breads with us, so for once we had an evening meal with "real" bread.

In the afternoon we continued our cruise on the Thames. It is still very difficult to find moorings, so we got a visitor who moored outside us. It was Ray and Lucille on Lucy Locket and we had another nice chat with them before it was time to go to bed.

26-7-2008 Marpledurham --> Shillingford Bridge Hotel

Vi började dagen med ett besök i den trevliga Beale Park, där vi åkte tåg, tittade på ugglor, såg på vattenträdgårdar och mycket annat.

Sen fortsatte vi i lungt tempo upp för Themsen.

Vi slutar alldrig att förundras över de märkliga farkoster man möter på Themsen.

På kvällen la vi ännu en gång till vid Shillingford Bridge Hotel.

We started the day with a visit in the very nice Beale Park, where we took the small train around in the park and looked at the owles, the water gardens and a lot of other things.

After the visit to the park we continued our slow cruising up for the Thames.

We never stop wondering about the many strange "boats" we meet on the river.

In the evening we once more moored up at the Shillingford Bridge Hotel.

Detta var dagen där vi tog de sista slussarna på Kennet & Avon Kanalen och gick ut på Themsen igen.

Då vi kom till Country Lock i Reading blev det stopp för en stund på grund av reperationer. Medan vi väntade var det plötslig en som ropade, det var Andy Edwards på Khayamanzi som hade följt vår Rivendell blogg. Det skall bli kul att följa Andy's blogg när han går upp for Kennet & Avon.

I Reading blev det storhandlat på Tesco och sen var vi åter ute bland de stora båtarna, de stora slussarna och de stora vattenfallen.

Kvällarna på Themsen är mycket vackra även om det är mycket svårt att hitta tillägsplatser.

This was the day then we took the last locks on the Kennet & Avon Canal and went out on the Thames again.

When we came to the Country Lock in Reading we had a short waiting time because of the ongoing repair work in the lock. While we waited somebody shouted at us from a boat coming up the lock. That was Andy Edwards on the Khayamanzi who has been following our Rivendell blog. It will be fun to follow Andy's blog when he goes up for the Kennet and Avon (he has already started complaining over the many heavy locks and swingbridges ;-)

In Reading we went shopping at Tesco before we continued our cruising, now among big boats, big locks and big weirs.

The nights at the Thames are very beautiful, even if it is very difficult to find a mooring place for the night.

24-7-2008: Woolhampton --> Theale

Vi började dagen med att gå in på varvet i Aldermaston för att få bytt olja och oljefilter på motorn.

Sen fortsatte vi ner för Kennet & Avon. Det började bli tätt mellen sväng- och lyft broarna. En del måste man öppna för hand och andra var el-manövrerade med en styrpult.

Vädret har varit underbart de senasta dagarna, men efter ett par timmers seglats hade det blivit för hett och vi la till för dagen. Resten av eftermiddagen tillbringades i skuggan under ett träd.

Vid kvällstid gick vi en runda mellan de många sjöar och flodgrenar i området och träffade denna lilla krabat i "djungeln".

We started the day with a visit to the Aldermaston Wharf for oilchange and change of oilfilter.

When we were finished at the wharf we continued down the Kennet & Avon Canal. There are more and more bridges on our way. Some of them must be opened by hand while others are electrically maneuvered.

The weather has been wonderful in the last couple of days, but after a few hours of cruising it simply was too hot and we moored up for the night. The rest of the afternoon was spend in the shadown under a tree.

After the dinner we went for a walk between the many lakes and small rivers in the area and med this little guy in the "jungle".

23-7-2008: Newbury --> Woolhampton

Några av slussportarna på Kennet & Avon kanalen är väldigt otäta, så styrmannen risikerar att få sig en dusch när han står på båten i slussen.

Vår "kompis" Krappen är som vanligt med på våra resor och njuter landskapet som glidar förbi.

Vädret har varit helt underbart i dag och det är trängsel på kvällens tillägsplats.

Some of the locks at the Kenneth & Avon Canal are leaking so much that the man at the tillerpin can get a shower when he is standing at the boat in the lock.

Our "friend" Krappen is with us as usual on our travels and enjoys the landscapes that passes by the window.

The weather has been wonderful today and this days mooring are really filled up.

22-7-2008: Hungerford --> Newbury

Lugn färd - inte så många båtar. Men vi mötte en gammal bekant, den hästdragna bargen. Och sen mötte vi också en båt som hade blivit av med grillen på taket då de mötte den hästdragna.

På eftermiddagen hittade vi vår gamla tillägsplats i det vänliga Newbury.

På kvällen gick vi en större runda i staden.

A quiet cruising today with very few boats on the canal. But we met our old friend, the horsedrawn barge. And later we met another boat who had lost their barbeque from the roof when they met the horsedrawn barge.

In the afternoon we found our old mooring place in the friendly Newbury and in the evening we went for a longer walk in the town.

21-7-2008: Great Bedwyn --> Hungerford

En lugn tur med endast 10 slussar ...

På eftermiddagen la vi till i Hungerford och gick en längre runda på the Common. Ett mycket vackert område där kreaturen går fritt omkring - också på vägarna.

Sen blev det tid till en pint på puben Down Gate som liggar intil the Common.

In the afternoon we moored in Hungerford and went for a walk at the Common. A very beautiful area where the cattle walks freely around - also at the roads.

After the walk it was time for a pint at the pub Down Gate that is situated at the edge of the Common.

20-7-2008: Top of Crofton Locks --> Great Bedwyn

På vägen stannade vi till vid Crofton Pumping Station. Ett mycket interessant besök vid den gamla ångdrivna pumpstationen från det artonde århundrade som pumpar vatten upp till toppen av Kennet & Avon kanalen.

På eftermiddagen la vi till i Great Bedwyn och gick en runda i byn. En verklig pärla. Många av byarna i detta området ser ut som om tiden har stått stilla sedan 1800 talet.

På puben Three Tuns var det mycket trevligt och både hundar och barn såg ut att trivas.

On the way we stopped at the Crofton Pumping Station. A very interesting visit at the old steam driven pumping station from the 18th century that pumps the water up to the top of the Kennet & Avon canal.

In the afternoon we moored for the night in Great Bedwyn and went for a walk in the village. A real gem. Many of the villages in this area looks as if the time has not changed since the last century.

The pub Three Tuns was very cosy and both dogs and children looked as if they had a good time in there.

19-7-2008: Honey Street --> Top of Crofton Locks

Vi började dagen med en helt underbar långvandring till backarna vid den vita hästen där vi hittade vår geocache no 2000!

Från toppen hade vi en 360 graders vy över hela landskapet.

På vägen did såg vi en nygjort crop-circle mitt i en åker. Ingen konst att ta sig dit när det finns traktorspår i marken ;-) Det spekuleras mycket på vem som gör dessa cirklar och hur de bär sig år - allt från gröna män från Mars till helikopterlandningar. Vi träffade också någon som menade att det hela var kommersiellt och att det fanns svarta lådar ute på åkrarna där man kunde lägga i pengar för att "stötta" arbetet med att göra crop-cirklar. De sa också att han som brukade göra cirklarna hade gått i pension, men att det uppenbarligen måste vara nya som hade tagit över.

We started the day with an absolutely wonderful walk to the hills at the white horse - and found our geocache no 2000!

From the top of the hills we had a 360 degrees view over the landscape - breathtaking.

On our way to the top we saw a newly made crop circle in the middle of a field. No problem to get there when there are tractor tracks in the field ;-) There are many discussions about who are making those circles and how they do it - all from green men from Mars to helicopter landings. We met a couple on our walk who ment that it was all commercial and that there were black boxes on the acres where you could donate money to support the art of making crop circles. They also told us that the guy who usually made the circles had retired, but that obviously there must be some new people who had taken over.

18-7-2008: Devizes --> Honey Street

Började dagen med ett besök på den närliggande plantskolan, båtens blommor behövde förnyas. Sedan tog vi de 3 återståande slussarna upp till Devizes där vi storhandlade.

Efter en kort men intensiv regnskur då vi passade på att äta lunch, fortsatte vi österut till Honey Street och the Barge Inn.

Det var nästan inga båtar på kanalen, bara denna som lurade i vassen - och så denna söta lilla båt.

We started the day with a visit to the local gardencenter, the flowers at the roof of the boat needed replacements. After this we took the 3 final locks up to Devizes where we went shopping.

After a short but intensive rainshower while we had our lunch, we continued our cruising to Honey Street and moored up at the Barge Inn.

There were almost no boats on the canal, only a singe one hiding in the greenery and the little cute one you see on the picture above.

17-7-2008: Caen Slusstrappa / Caen Flight

Började dagen med svanmatning och reperation av duschpumpan.

Sedan var det tid att ta itu med slusstrappan på 29 slussar. Det gick bra, men da vi endast hade 3 slussar kvar fick vi syn på en tillägsplats utan för puben The Black Horse. Den frestelsen föll vi för, så det blev middag på puben.

När vi satt på båten och pustade ut efter ansträngningen dök det plötslig upp en man som stod utenför och vinkade. Det var Chris från The Chens som hade fåt syn på Rivendell som han hade läst om i våra geocaching loggar. Vi fick en trevlig pratstund.

We started the day feeding the swans and having our showerpump repaired.

After this it was time to get started on the 29 locks in the Caen flight. It was ok, but when we only missed the last 3 locks we saw a visitormooring outside the pub "The Black Horse". This temptation we could not resist, so we ended up having dinner at the pub.

While we sat at the boat and recovered after the hard work there suddenly stood a man outside the boat wavering through the window. That was Chris from The Chens som had recognized Rivendell that he had read about in our geocaching log, and we had a nice chat with him.

16-7-2008: Semington --> Foxhanger Wharf

I dag har vi tillbringat det mesta av dagen i den lilla byn Lacock. En underbar liten pärla där Harry Potter och många andra filmer och TV-serier har spelats in. Man har tagit bort allt modernt, så det finns inga elledningar eller TV-antenner som är synliga från gatan ;-) Tyvärr finns det bilar på gatan, men de är ju lätte att ta bort når det skall filmas.

National Trust har en stor egendom i byn "Lacock Abbey" där det gamla klostret från 1300 talet har blivit ombygt till bostäder redan på 1500 talet. Mycket spännande att se.

Det är i detta gamla kloster och dess vakra omgivningar att fler av Harry Potter filmerna har spelats in.

Besöket i Lacock avslutades med cream tee i en av de många tee gardens i byn. Sen tog vi bussan tilbaka till båten. Vi åkte med båten ett par timmer för att vara klar till den stora slusstrappen i morgon.

Today we spend most of the day in the small village Lacock. A lovely little location where Harry Potter and many other films and TV-shows have been produced. They have removed all modernity from the front of the village, so you will see no electricity wires and no TV-antennas when you are walking in the streats ;-) Unfortunately there are plenty of cars in the streets, but they are of course easy to remove when it is time for a new film production.

The National Trust owns a big property in the village, the "Lacock Abbey" from the 13th century, that was changed into a house to live in already in the 15th century. A very interesting place to visit.

It is in this old abbey and its beautiful surroundings that several of the Harry Potter film has been produced.

We ended our visit to Lacock having cream tee in one of the many tee gardens in the village. After this we took the bus back to the boat and cruised for a couple of hours. Just to be ready for the big flight of locks tomorrow.

15-7-2008: Dundas Aqueduct --> Semington

En lugn och avslappad tur i sol och värme. Känns som om det åter skall bli riktig sommer i England ;-)

Vi la till för natten vid en bro med branta stigningar på båda sidorna och tillbringade resten av dagen med att mysa, cacha, grilla och tvätta av båten.

Sent på eftermiddagen kom ett par av våra nya Engelska cachevänner förbi på towpathen och vi fick en lång och trevlig pratstund. Det är kul att vi ibland träffar folk som vi har pratat med innan, så känner man sig liksom mer hemma.

A quiet and relaxing trip in the warm and sunny weather. It feels like it finally will be real summer weather in England.

We moored for the night with a bridge with very steep slopes on both sides, and spend the rest of the day with geocaching, cleaning the boat and having barbeque on the bank.

In the late afternoon two of our new English cachefrinds passed by on the towpath and we had a long and nice chat together. It is fun that we sometimes meet people that we have met earlier on our trip(s), that makes us feel more like at home.

14-7-2008: Bath --> Dundas Aquaduct

I dag reste Kenneth hem. Vi lämnade honom i Bath, där han tog tåget till Gatwich Airport och derifrån hem till Sverige.

Själv började vi långsamt ta oss tilbaka österut mot Reading. Det var lugnt på kanalen och vi njöt det vakra landskapet.

Vi la till för natten i bassängen vid Dundas Aqueduct och gick en liten runda långs den gamla Somerset Coal Canal innan Mats tände grillen.

Today it was time for Kenneth to go home. We left him at the railway station at Bath Spa.

After that we slowly started to go eastwards back towards Reading. The canal was quiet and we enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

We moored for the night in the bassin at the Dundas Aqueduct and went for a short stroll along the old Somerset Coal Canal before Mats lit the barbeque.

13-07-2008: Bath (+ Bradford on Avon)

Vi började dagen med att ta tåget från Bath tillbaks till Bradford on Avon, där vi ville deltaga i ett geocaching event - "Picnic in the park". Det var mycket trevligt att träffa andra likasinnade från trakten.

Tillbaka i Bath blev det till en liten runda på stan. En otrolig vacker stad med gamla fina hus, breda avenyer, smala gränder, fina parker och vattenmiljöer.

In the morning we took the train from Bath back to Bradford on Avon, where we wanted to attend to a geocaching event - "Picnic in the park". It was very nice to meet local people with the same interests as ourself.

When we came back to Bath in the afternoon, we went for a stroll in the town. A very beautiful town with lovely old houses, broad avenues, small alleys, nice parks and areas near the water.

12-7-2008: Bradford on Avon --> Bath

Denna dag gick inte helt som planerat. Början var det inget fel på och vi gick genom resans finaste landskap. Färden gick över ett par akvadukter, genom vackra dalgångar och mycket annat.

Det låg många båtar längs kanten av kanalen. En del var mycket fina, som hobbithålan ovanför, andra var mera kreativa som självbygget nedanför.

Men sen blev det problem. Vi gick ner genom slussarna till floden Avon som går genom Bath (en av slussarna var 6 meter djup) och började ta oss in mot centrum. Men plötslig befann vi oss mitt i en drakbåtstävling och blev bortkörda - inte helt enkelt att ta sig baklänges ut genom strömmen ;-)

Vi försökte hitta ett annat ställe att lägga till, men fann inget som var trevligt. Så till slut gick vi upp för alla slussarna igen och hittade en tillägsplats längre bort från stan.

This day did not really follow the plans. The start was fine and we went through the most beautiful landscapes on the whole trip. We passed aquaducts, went through lovely valleys and much more.

There were many boats along the bank of the canal. Some were very charming like the hobbithole above, others were more creative like the builders boat below.

But later we got into troubles. We went down through the locks to the river Avon that passes through Bath (one of the locks was 6 meter deep) and started to go towards the center. But suddenly we found ourself in the middle of a drakeboat competition and was told to go away - not a very easy thing to do with a narrowboat in the strong currents on the river.

We tried to find another mooring place in Bath, but did not find a place we liked, so we ended up going back through all the locks again and found a nice and quiet mooring place a bit outside the city.

11-7-2008: Seend Cleve --> Bradford on Avon

Vi la till i hamnen i Bradford on Avon i ösregn, men regnet slutade snart och vi kunne njuta den trevliga stämningen med tehus och många båtar.

I Bradford on Avon gick vi en trevlig runda och så blandt annat den mycket fina Tithe Barn från fjortonhundratalet.

Vi gick också upp till ett litet kapel som ligger högt över byn med en hänförande utsikt. På vägen dit gick vi igenom de mest underbara gränder där folk bor i de gamla vävarhus som ligger ingrävad i branten.

We moored in Bradford on Avon while the rain was pouring down, but it soon cleared up and we could enjoy the nice surroundings with a tee house and many boats around.

In Bradford on Avon we made a very nice walk and visited the beautiful Tithe Barn from the 14th century.

After this we went to a small chapel high over the village with a lovely view. On the way to the chapel we went through the most beautiful alleys where people live in the old weaver's houses that are dug into the hillside.

10-07-08: Devizes --> Seend Cleeve

I dag var det stora slussdagen - 32 slussar blev det iallt. Men alla slussarna i Caën Locks (29 styck) var mycket väl underhållna och lätta att hantera. Vi följdes med Crispy Duck i hela trappan vilket också gjorde att allt gick mycket lättare. Så efter 4 timmar var vi vid bottenslussen.

Sen fortsatte vi en bit (och ytterligare 3 slussar + 2 svängbroar) innan vi hittade en mooring vid The Barge Inn. Där blev det en välförtjänt fika och en stor öl.

Today was the great day of locks - 32 locks in total. But all the 29 locks in the Caën Locks staircase were very well maintained and easy to handle. We shared all the locks with Crispy Duck which also helped to make it all go easier. So after 4 hours we were at the bottomlock.

After this we continued for a while (and 3 more locks + 2 swing bridges) before we found a mooring at the Barge Inn. Then it was time for a well deserved late lunch and a X6 beer.

9-7-08: Devizes

Vi stannade i Devizes i dag, som lovat har det nu regnat oavbrutet i ca 20 timmar. Förhoppningsvis slutar det under natten så vi kan komma ner för den stora slusstrappan i morgon (29 sköna slussar väntar oss).

I stället blev det till ett par spännande visiter. Först på det lokala museet som har en fin samling av fornfynd från trakterna.

Efter lunch besökte vi Wadworth bryggeriet, där man fortfarande producerer öl med gammal teknik och kör ut ölen med Shirehästar.

Shirehästarna kan bli upp till 18 hands höga (det är väldigt mycket ;-)

Vi såg också deras signwriters, som gör mycket fina skyltar til pubar o.d.

Under rundvisningen och den påföljande ölprovningen hade vi sälskap med de mycket trevliga medlemmarna i Waterway Recovery Group. Det är friviliga som håller på med att restaurera ännu oöppnade kanaler i hela England, det är verkligen ett arbete vi måste vara tacksama för.

We are still in Devizes, as promised in the weather forecast it has none been raining non stop for 20 hours. Hopefully it will clear up during the night so we can get down the big staircase tomorrow (29 broad locks are waiting for us).

In stead of cruising we had time for two interesting visits. The first visit was to the local museum who has a fine collection of prehistoric artefacts from Wiltshire.

After lunch we went to the Wadworth brewery, where they still produce ale using the old techniques and distribute the ale to the local pubs with Shire horses. The Shire horses can be up to 18 hands high (= very big!!!)

We did also visit their signwriters who make very nice signs for pubs etc.

During the guided tour through the brewery and the following bear testing we were together with the very kind members of the Waterway Recovery Group. They are volunteers who work with the restauration of the inland waterways, really some people to admire and be thankful to.

08-07-08: Honey Street --> Devizes

En kort och lugn resa med vackra vyer över de omgivande backarna. Vi gjorde ett uppehål i All Cunnings, där vi gick en cacherunda i den mysiga gamla lilla byn med många korsvirkeshus med fina halmtak.

I Devizes fanns det gott om plats i hamnen och här kommer vi nog att få tilbringa nästa dag på grund av väderleksprognosen - regn, regn och åter regn ...

A Short and easy trip with great views over the surrounding hilly landscapes. We made a stopover in All Cunnings, where we went caching in the beautiful little village with many timbered houses.

In Devizes there were a big harbour and we might have to stay here for some time. The weather forecast says rain, rain and rain ...

7-7-08: Great Bedwyn --> Honey Street

Vi träffade ett trevligt par från Australien som vi följdes med i dagens 14 slussar. Det går mycket lättare när man är två båtar i de breda slussar.

Då det blev tid för lunch hittade vi inget ställe att förtöja. Men som tur var höll de på att reparera slussen framför oss, så vi fick lov att ligga på sluss väntastället en halv times tid.

Vi är nu uppe på kanalens högsta punkt där vi gick genom Bruce Tunnel. Kanalen slingrar sig genom mycket vackra backiga landskap med många minnen fra keltiska tiden. Bland annat en stor terasserad backe skapad av kelterna för deras lantbruk. Och en vit jättehäst (ca 80 m hög) på en slänt. Den var gjord på början av 1800 talet som en kopia av den rigtiga keltiska hästen som finns på en annan slänt här i närheten. Folk från byggden säger att det finns 12 likadana hästar i område.

På kvällen la vi till vid the Barge Inn i Honey Street. En mysig pub med 60-tals musik i högtalarna.

We shared the locks today with a very nice Australian couple. It is so much easier when you are 2 boats in those broad locks.

When it was lunchtime we could not find a suitable mooring. But luckily some workers was repairing the lock in front of us, so we could have lunch at the lock pollards while we were waiting for the lock to be ready for use.

We are now passing the highest point at the canal where we passed the Bruce Tunnel. The canal is twisting its way through very beautiful hilly landscapes with many remainings from the celtic times. For instance a bit hill with terrasses made by the celts for their agriculture. And a white mega-horse (about 80 m tall) on a slope. This horse was made at the early 1800 as a copy of the real celtic horse than can be seen on another slope nearby. The locals told us that there are 12 of those horses in this area.

At the end of the day we moored up at Barge Inn in Honey Street. A cosy pub with music from the sixties.

06-07-08: Kintbury -> Great Bedwyn

Detta var vår första rigtiga regndag på turen, med omväxlande regn och skurar från morgon till sen eftermiddag. På något sätt ändå mysigt att stå i båten i det lugna regnet, men knapp så mysigt att ta hand om slussarbetet när allting är blöt og halt.

Mitt på dagen blev det en paus i den trevliga lilla byn Hungerford, där vi passada på att handle förnödenheter för de kommande dagarna.

Our first rainy day on the trip, with rain and showers all day. In some way it felt quite nice to stand on the boat in the silent rain, but not very nice to maintain the locks when everything was wet and slippery.

At noon we took a break in the nice little town Hungerford, were we went to the supermarket to fill up with food for the days to come.
